Brief About NASA Cassini Mission : Cassini–Huygens is a joint NASA/ESA/ASI robotic spacecraft mission currently studying the planet Saturn and its moons. It was launched on October 15, 1997 and entered into orbit around Saturn on July 1, 2004. It is the first spacecraft to orbit Saturn and the fourth to visit Saturn. “Cassini Scientist for a Day” is an activity organized in more than 40 countries. For India NASA CSFAD Organising Committee consisting of National Coordinators ( N.Sri Raghunandan Kumar, ManojPai, Pradeep Mohandas) selected by Cassini People Outreach Division, JPL, NASA
NASA CSAD India Organizing Committee is organizing “NASA Cassini Scientist for A Day” India Contest 2011 with technical support of CASSINI PEOPLE OUTREACH DIVISION, JPL, NASA.
Eligibility: Students in 5- 7 and 8-10 with knowledge or interest to learn about Planet Saturn and the NASA’s Cassini - Huygens mission can participate.
Participation through Essay on attending awareness session: Students imagining themselves as Mission Scientist need to write an essay of 500 words send to csfadindia@gmail.com (hardcopy is preferred). Students are given three targets out of which any one target should be selected. Essay should depict i. Reasons for selection of that target ii. What he/expects to find from the target around Saturn using on board instruments. iii. Why he thinks selected target is an effective choice as a scientist of the mission.

Awareness Sessions by Planetary Society India & other Efforts
Planetary Society India since year 2007 has been part of CSFAD when it was first planned working for students in india. Presently in association with organising commitee it takes various steps to encourage effective participation and create awarness about Cassini-Huygens Missions of NASA, Saturn, Recent research on planet saturn and its system.
Awareness Session for School teachers :
Awareness Session/ Material For School Students: to assist student’s society is organizing awareness sessions for students along with Special 2 GB CD & Material various places across the country.
Procedure for Participation in the session– Important: There is no limit on Number of Participants from a school. Interested schools can send names of the students along with request for material (addressed to General Secretary) to planetarysocietyindia@gmail.com on school letter head from the principal. Dates of session/venue will be informed once the required total number of students is received.
